PEACE LIBRARY

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Peace Library is part of the Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution ASPR) and is situated in the former Schlaining Synagogue which was renovated 1989.

It is mainly an academic library serving the research needs of the ASPR and its programs like IPT. It is also the library for the European University Center for Peace (EPU) and open to the interested public. Additionally  it’s also a public library with a special collection of childrens books.

The general subject is peace research with a specific focus on conflict resolution, conflict studies and peace education. Among the topics covered are: conflict studies, world policy, international relations, military and security issues, peacekeeping activities, peace studies, human rights, development policy, peace- and social movements, philosophy, political psychology, political sociology, women studies, Austrian history and politics.

The library holdings currently consist of some 25 000 books mainly in the languages German and English. The library also subscribes to or receive on exchange 280 journals, newspapers and current report series. It also has an extensive “grey-area materials” collection and some videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs.
