Welcome to the
International Civilian Peacekeeping/Peacebuilding Training Program (IPT)

The Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR) figures among the leading institutions of its kind in Europe. In recognition of the significant contribution to the programme and objectives of the International Year of Peace, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1987, the Secretary-General (UNSCG) Pérez de Cuéllar designated ASPR as a “Peace Messenger”.

When UNSCG Boutros-Ghali launched his “Agenda for Peace” in 1992, he called up to establish training facilities for Civilian Peacekeepers all over the world. His main idea was to overcome the traditionally pure military approach to conflict – but to systematically strengthen Civil Society stakeholders in Crisis-affected regions instead.

It is at the Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict-Resolution that  the first Courses were designed and carried out only one year later – so our Peace-Castle became the first Center worldwide to offer respective trainings. More than 1.600 international civilian peacekeepers/peacebuilders have been trained within the framework of IPT ever since ... and many of them are nowadays working in leading positions with the UN or relevant NGOs all over the world.
