The project builds on the extensive experience of the ASPR in capacity building as a training centre and is designed to provide experts from governments, civil society, international organisations and the private sector with comprehensive approaches to peacebuilding and SSR. On the basis of a human security approach, their capacity for planning and implementing tasks either from their home base in governmental or non-governmental organisations or in a leading position in the field should be improved. In addition, the mutual understanding as well as the cooperation between policy and decision makers as well as actors involved in peacebuilding activities and SSR should be enhanced.
The project aims at bringing together diverse actors from the field of
peacebuilding and the security arena to foster national and international
cross-sector networks. In the framework of this project ASPR will offer training
courses, workshops, and conferences.
The current scope of the project includes a 7-day training course on SSR and a
7-day training course one Peacebuilding per year from 2009 to 2013. After the
successful implementation of pilot courses in 2009 the training courses are held
in the framework of the academic programme of the European Security and Defence
College (ESDC).
Scheduled
courses for 2012:
ESDC Course on SSR: 16 – 23 March 2012, application deadline: 9 January 2012
ESDC Course on Peacebuilding: 12 – 19 October 2012, application: deadline 29 June 2012
