FAQs
1.
Do
I have to attend the Core and the Specialization Courses in a sequence?
No.
For many participants it is difficult to leave their job for more than two weeks.
This is why we offer the possibility to first attend the Core Course and then,
at a later point in time, the Specialization Course. However,
preference is given to those candidates who take both courses at a time.
2.
Do I need a health insurance for the time I attend the IPT Course?
Yes,
absolutely.
3.
What kind of Health Certificate do I need?
It
is sufficient to get a confirmation from your general practitioner stating that
you are in good health. No specific form is required.
4.
I have very high qualifications and extensive experience in the field. Can
I attend the Specialization Course without first attending the
Core Course?
Precondition
for attendance of a Specialization Course is having participated in one
of our “Core Courses” (or a similar basic mission preparation training
course) or to have, acquired through personal experiences, a thorough knowledge
of the work in a field mission.
5.
Is IPT comparable to an academic program?
IPT
is not an academic program. It prepares participants for working in a mission
environment and broadens the horizon of those already working there. The
trainers combine theory with practical examples. Case studies and role plays are
frequently used to further emphasise the practical aspect of the course.
6.
What is the difference between IPT and EPU?
EPU
is a study program that offers a Certificate for the Advanced International
Study Program in Peace and Conflict Transformation and a Master of Arts in
“Peace and Conflict Studies”. The focus here lies on academic work. For more
information about the EPU please check the EPU
website.

are, however, willing to provide you with a support letter a potential donor may
request.
8.

10.
How
much spare time will I have?
The
Program of the IPT Course is very tight. Classes are held from 9.00 am – 10.30
am and 11.00 am – 12.30 pm. Lunch break is from 12.30 pm – 3.00 pm, and
afternoon classes are from 3.00 pm – 4.30 pm and 5.00 pm – 6.30 pm.
In
the evenings participants have the opportunity to hold „Participants‘
Contributions“ (presentations on their work, their country etc). Taking part
in informal discussions in the evenings and „social events“ is considered a
crucial part of the program.
There
is no time for other commitments during the course. Presence during classes is
obligatory.
11.
Can
my family stay in Stadtschlaining while I attend the IPT Course?
It
is not recommended to have families or friends present while participants are
attending the IPT Course. Participants should be able to concentrate on the
course and use their free time for reflection or exchange with other
participants. This is a unique opportunity to discuss with colleagues from all
over the world and thus build friendships that will help when looking for a job,
going to a new country, and so forth. It
is highly recommended to fully take advantage of this opportunity.
12.
How do I get the visa I need in order to come to Austria?
Once
you are accepted as a participant you will receive a letter stating that you are
invited to attend the IPT Course at Stadtschlaining, Austria.
You can use this letter as a supporting document when you go to the
nearest Austrian Embassy (or the Embassy of another Schengen Country). The
approval of the visa after presentation of the required documents can take some
time and vary from one Embassy to other, therefore we urge you to contact the
Embassy as soon as possible. While we like to support your visa application
through our invitation letter, we cannot influence the visa issuing process.
